It all began on Instagram!

How We Met

It all began with a heart on Instagram! We both follow author and communicator, Annie F. Downs. In February of 2019, she promoted fellow blogger Kelly Stamps "Singles Day," where she annually takes the day after Valentine's Day to post profiles of single Chrisitan men and women in the hope that relationships would form. This particular year, she created an Instagram account, @KellysKornerSingles, where over 1900 singles submitted their pictures and profiles. Mike sent his profile and pictures. His first photo was his headshot, but when the second photo was loaded (pictured here), it cut off his head! Melissa found out about the account from her friend Kaylee, but instead of submitting her profile, she scrolled through that very first day it launched. At the prompting of her sister in law, Molly, she pressed "like" on Mike's profile. An hour later, Mike requested to follow Melissa on Instagram, the next day he slid into her DM's and they messaged for a few days before Mike called her, booked a flight to Atlanta, and took Melissa on a date the very next weekend. What was supposed to be a lunch date turned into 9 hours together...coffee, dinner, and walking over 17,000 steps around Atlanta. They were smitten and amazed how God could weave two stories of brokenness into a beautiful picture of His restoration.

Proposal & Engagement

We began talking seriously about marriage on our one year anniversary of dating, February 23. Little did we know that Covid-19 was coming and about to turn the world as we knew it upside down. We continued to pursue the next steps toward marriage, beginning pre-engagement counseling online and ring shopping via Zoom! It turns out, ordering an engagement ring during a pandemic caused quite a delay. Finally, Mike received the ring and told his kids, Michael and Dylan, that he was going to propose. They insisted on being a part of it. Their favorite part of the day is at bedtime when they pile on Dylan's bed to read a story and devotional together. Melissa joins in when she's in town. After bedtime on July 30, Mike asked the kids if they'd like for Melissa to be a part of their favorite part of the day - every day. They enthusiastically said yes! After a few more questions, Mike got down on one knee and told Melissa he wanted to spend all of his days with her. He asked, "Will you marry me?" and she said, "yes!"
